Garlan Lucien “Rusty” Andrews Obituary

Garlan Lucien “Rusty” Andrews, 84, of Mullen, died May 26, 2012, at Pioneer Memorial Rest Home.

Garlan was born in Seneca on June 19, 1927, to Lucien and Vera (Johnson) Andrews. Garlan “Rusty” graduated from Mullen High School in 1945. He joined the army during the Korean Conflict in October 1950 and was discharged in August 1956.

On Dec. 9, 1953, he married Kathryn Sweet. She died July 13, 1963. Three children were born to this union. He leased and ran his father’s, Lucien, ranch 18 miles north of Mullen. He lived there until his retirement in 1994. He moved into Mullen and resided there until going to the Rest Home.

He was a member of the Mullen VFW No. 5541 and American Legion Post No. 109. He served on the Episcopal Church board and District No. 98 School Board. He loved ranching, fishing, hunting and softball. He especially loved food and family get-togethers.

Survivors include daughter, Retonia (Tim) Gruntorad, of Kearney; sons, Glenn (Calleen) Andrews, of Gordon, and Rodney (Yvonne) Andrews, of Mullen; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson; sisters, June (Tex) Evans, of Mullen, and Norma (John) Pearson, of Fallbrook, Calif.

In addition to his first wife; he is preceded in death by parents, Lucien and Vera Andrews; wife, Neva (Little Jones); sisters, Esther Jensen, Betty Brannan and Eula Fosdick.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. (MDT) on Friday, June 1, at the Methodist Church in Mullen. Inurnment will be at the Cedarview Cemetery with military honors.

Mullen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Paul Raymond Little Obituary

Paul Raymond Little of Mullen, 91, passed away March 7, 2012, at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln.

Paul was born in Southern Cherry County on Aug. 8, 1920, to Carl and Tennie (Long) Little. He attended grade school in Cherry County and had one year of high school in Mullen. He was an honorary graduate of Mullen High School in 2000.

Paul worked on area ranches until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served his country at Omaha Beach on D-Day and his LCT crew received the Presidential Unit Citation for actions on Omaha Beach that day. In 1946 he was honorably discharged.

Paul married Goldie Maire on Jan. 28, 1953, in Mullen where they made their life long home. Three sons were born into this union, Gary, Alan and Tony. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in January of 2012.

Paul worked at the Mullen Co-Op, Lowe Hardware, Johnson Feed store and Mullen Public Schools. After his retirement he helped mow and trim grass at Cedarview Cemetery.

One of his hobbies was working on Maytag washers and dryers.

Paul is survived by his wife, Goldie, of Mullen; sons, Gary (Marg), of Kearney, Alan (Bonnie), of North Platte, and Tony (Anne), of Kearney; grandchildren, Bri (Justin) Moore, Mandi (Grant) Mollring, Eric (Melissa) Little, Darrin Little, Janelle Little (fiancé Drew Bauer), Nolan (Laura) Little, Lana Little, Rylan (Kayla) Little. Great grandchildren Alex, Kaleb and Taylor Moore, Jackson Little, Emryk, Arlo and soon to be baby Little.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elmer, Claude and Ivan; sisters, Thelma Pearman, Minnie Gier Miller and Neva Jones Andrews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. (MT) on Tuesday, March 13, at the Mullen Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Cedarview Cemetery with military honors.

Memorials are suggested to the Cedarview Cemetery, Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home or donor’s choice.

Mullen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John A. (Bud) Gibson, Jr. Obituary

MULLEN – John A. (Bud) Gibson Jr., 54, of Mullen, died Tuesday in a Kearney hospital.  He was born Nov. 15, 1921, at Mullen.  He attended Visalia College in California and returned to Mullen to ranch.  He had operated the Mullen Cafe for 12 years.  At the time of his death, he owned and operated the Gibson Insurance Agency with his son Dan.

Gibson was a member of St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church, the Mullen Masonic Lodge of which he was past master.  He was also a member of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge No. 985 of North Platte.  He was a past member of the Mullen Town Board and had served for several years on the Cemetery Board at Mullen.  Survivors include his widow, Betty; two sons, Eddie and Daniel, both of Mullen; a daughter, Mrs. Allen (Sharon Kay) Bergmeier of Kearney; a brother, Barney of Bagdad, Ariz.; and a sister, Mrs. Jeffie DeFusco of Phoenix, Ariz.

Services will be at 1 p.m. MST Saturday at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church at Mullen with the Rev Charles Morgan officiating.  Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery at Mullen.  A memorial has been established to St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church or to the Cemetery Fund.  Mr. Gibson’s body will lie in state at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Saturday after which the casket will be closed.  Mullen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
