The Jens Krichau Family

June 7, 2011 By Wade Leave a Comment

Jens Krichau and Anna Rhode were born at Oester Hoejst, Denmark and were married on September 14, 1892.  That same year they sailed on the ship, Tigtana, and landed at Halifax, Canada.  They came to Hazard, Nebraska to settle, as they had relatives there, the Spangburgs and the Petersons.

They were both baptised and confirmed in the Danish Lutheran Faith.

They moved from Hazard to a Danish community south of Mason City, Nebraska in 1901.  In 1906 the Krichau family moved back to a farm they purchased 5 miles northeast of Hazard.

They continued to live here until 1937 when they moved into the village of Hazard and purchased the Jacobson house where they lived until their deaths.  Anna died in 1951 and Jens in 1956.  They were buried at the Ravenna Cemetery.

To this union seven sons and one daughter were born.

Hans married Christina Hohlfeld; Peter married Anna Munster; Edward married Dora Rasmussen; Maurice married Ruby Reiter; Christina married Otha Lovitt; Christian died in fancy; Arthur never married and Elmer married Sigrid Tvedt.

Note:
This writing incorrectly identifies their marriage year as 1892, when in fact it is 1893, as noted on their Marriage License.

Note:
This writing incorrectly identifies the vessel they emigrated on as the Tigtana, when in fact it was the Wangurie as noted on Jens’ naturalization papers.
